![]() Able to support up to four players at once, this completely different "ship-versus-ship" mini-game bears a striking resemblance to Sid Meier's Pirates but with even more stuff to play with. What's most intriguing about Pirates of the Caribbean, though, is its ad hoc multiplayer mode. Expect plenty of different enemy types and sub-types as well. In the final version, players will be able to swordfight with several different kinds of enemies, pick up secondary disposable weapons (guns, bottles, etc), and upgrade their blade for more powerful attacks. In the few areas we got to sample gameplay seemed to fall into your standard third-person action genre, though it did have a nice assortment of varied attacks (specifically stun, light, and heavy strikes). Of course, the most pressing question of the day is how does Dead Man's Chest play, and to be honest, it's still too early to tell. From an artistic point of view, it's obvious that Amaze has spent a considerable amount of time working on the visuals (the actor's likenesses, but not voices, will also be included) and it's good to see that production value was a high priority. Not only are the backgrounds brightly colored and appropriately varied, but the animations for characters - heroes and villains alike - are definitely high quality. Swamps, deserted islands, and a number of other thematic locales are already up and working in the build we played, and they're looking pretty good if we say so ourselves. Those stages should take PSP gamers just about everywhere too. Jones and the driving force behind the game's ten different stages. ![]() ![]() Naturally, Captain Sparrow is forced to escape and heads out on a search for the "Dead Man's Chest," the only item in the world that will free Jack of his debt to Mr. In the first stage, for example, Jack finds himself in a prison where he's planning an escape from his servitude to Davy Jones (whom he owes for helping Jack locate the Black Pearl). Despite its decidedly handheld focus, however, Pirates of the Caribbean certainly captures the spirit of the movie pretty well. ![]()
